SAFETY TIPS for your business
- Install smoke alarms in every room. They should also be outside each area and on every level of the building. Install alarms in the basement.
- Large commercial facilities may need extra smoke alarms in large, open rooms.
- Ideally interconnected smoke alarms should be used....so that when one smoke alarm sounds, they all sound.
- Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
- Different types of alarms are available including multi-sensing, which could include smoke and carbon monoxide combined.
- A smoke alarm should be on the ceiling or high on a wall.
- Accommodate employees and/or customers who are hard-of-hearing or deaf. These alarms have strobe lights and bed shakers.
- Replace all smoke alarms when they are 5 years old.
